Sherry has spent her career providing early intervention speech and language therapy to infants and toddlers, and their families.
She emphasizes learning through play, developing understanding and use of language, as well as articulation, through therapies tailored to the individual child. Sherry provides therapy with a total communication approach, incorporating the use of sign language, picture symbols, and other modes of augmentative communication.
Sherry has presented about the use of augmentative communication in therapy at professional conferences across the country, and helped develop a light-tech augmentative communication system that is in use by speech pathologists nationwide.
She has helped educate daycare/preschool providers and teachers about speech-language development and ways to implement speech-language goals in daycare/ preschool classrooms, including the use of augmentative communication and sign language in the preschool setting.
Sherry is a North Carolina licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association. She is a member of the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association and the North Carolina Speech, Language, Hearing Association.
Sherry moved to Charlotte, N.C. in 2005 and established a private practice, Early Bird Speech & Language Services. In 2007, Early Bird expanded to offer speech-language and occupational therapy through independent therapists and became Early Bird Developmental Services, LLC. At the same time, Sherry also became an Independent Certified Instructor for Baby Signs®, the world’s leading sign language program for babies. Through the Baby Signs® program, children can learn to communicate before they can talk.
